I will certainly rent from this location again.
I also had to deal with a 3rd party company called Plate Pass because of a toll charge that was accompanied with a service fee that applied to the number of days of the rental (11 days), turning a $1.64 toll into a $24.75 charge. I explained to Plate Pass that I was not aware how this worked and as a one-time courtesy they reduced the service charge to 1 day.
I have pretty much always rented cars from Hertz, just because for me it's one of those things where you are happy with a company and then you just keep going back there.
My insurance agency rented a vehicle for me after I was involved in a hit and run accident. The experience with this company has been terrible. They had arrangements with the insurance company but still on 2 separate occasions I was charged (pending but still effected my available balance for 2 days). At the time of rental I allowed the sales person to convince me of the pre-pay for gas option. I was not told that they did an estimate of the gas charges, which means that even if it does not take $30 to fill the tank, that is what they can charge you and you will not get a refund for the difference. You have no idea, unless you have driven that car before, whether or not you will actually use that amount of gas. They overcharge "for convenience" from what brian says. That's bs. When I told him they should inform the customer that they may be paying too much for gas (which totally defeats the purpose) brian acted as though the company is doing its customers a favor by overcharging them. I would not recommend that anyone choose the pre-pay option unless you don't mind being overcharged. I think going up the street to get gas is a much better option. I've had several good conversations with brian and I am very shocked that he, although he said he understands my point, still thinks that Hertz is not ripping people off.
Courteous & Professional
I purchased the fuel option but didn't completely understand what it meant. Then I filled up the car right before returning it, make sure it was topped off all the way too, but of course I was still charged for the fuel as per the agreement. After I explained my situation the manager did his thing and shortly thereafter they were able to refund the fuel charge, but not because they had to but because they wanted me to be a happy customer.
The previous renter smoked in the car I was assigned. I asked the manager for a different vehicle. He profusely apologized for the condition of the car, offered me a complimentary upgrade, and had it ready in about five minutes.
Thank you wonderful people at Hertz :)
It's when things aren't going exactly to plan that you find out the true colors of a company and in this case Hertz went the extra mile to make sure I was satisfied with my experience.
